We rise again

our resiliency is built in

In light of the events of Monday evening, I am reposting a blog (with edits) that speaks to our natural resiliency.

In light of the events of Monday evening, I am reposting a blog (with edits) that speaks to our natural resiliency.

later that night

i held an atlas in my lap

ran my fingers across the whole world

and whispered

where does it hurt?

it answered

everywhere

everywhere

everywhere

- Warsan Shire

I sit here reflecting upon the last few days that have passed,

calling to mind the events

and the thoughts that have been uppermost in my mind.

And as with every week, a few thoughts whisper and weave themselves in and out of my consciousness...

until it is time to write.

And once again, I feel called to write about the nature of humanity and what it is to be human.

I am endlessly fascinated with how our humanity manifests itself in a myriad of ways -

how we can all be so different

and yet

deep within our core the same truths exist for all.

These truths breathe us in some moments

and stop our breath in others.

I speak of the events that took place Monday evening in Manchester England.

I speak of the ability for humans to incite terror against one another

and

I speak of the ability for humans to demonstrate absolute resiliency

in the face of that terror

time and time and time again.

I see so clearly the nature of our resiliency...

the strength of it

the power of it

the source of it.

Even in the face of the most cruel and traumatic experiences

our resiliency remains steadfast...

ever present

ever patient

ever ready

to bubble up

and return us to our own home base

of well being

of peace

of love

of compassion

of joy

of hope.

This is our true nature...deep in our core. One that can never be destroyed.

No matter the circumstances.

No matter the terror.

But sometimes,

it takes a little while for that resiliency to rise within...

And as we wait we begin to wonder if perhaps

this time

it is too much to bear

this time

it is lost to all

this time

it is broken beyond repair.

And in our worry and our waiting, it seems

so hard to see

and

so hard to trust

and

so hard to let go of our thoughts

as they bristle about our mind wreaking havoc at every turn.

But then, out of the blue...

like a phoenix rising from the ashes,

our resiliency rises up to meet our despair...

As it always does.

It fills us once again with a lifeforce and determination that has no equal.

And it is that force...that power and that strength that I hold above all others.

It is more sure and true and remarkable than any terror that may come our way.

Always within us ready to rise again and again when called upon.
